On June 20th, 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic raged worldwide, migrant workers in dormitories accounted for 90% of Singapore’s Covid-19 cases, despite making up just 20% of the country’s population of 5.7 million.
It spurred a sudden spate of social volunteers in Singapore at its best, divided Singaporeans at its worst, and garnered xenophobic responses in the media at its ugliest.
